Chikmagalur is situated in south western part of Karnataka. 215 Kms. from Bangalore is Chickmagalur town. The town is known for its coffee and tea estates. Chikmagalur literally means "The town of the younger daughter" in the native Kannada language. The town is said to have been given as a dowry to the younger daughter of Rummaged, the legendary chief of Sakrepatna and hence the name.
